Shovel the sidwalk in front of your house! Shovelling is great exercise as long as you use good form and don’t rush it. Imagine if everyone did this

Imagine if you had a disability and could’t shovel the sidewalk in front of your house, but it wasn’t an obvious, visible disability, so everyone assumes you’re just lazy. That would suck, wouldn’t it?

Snow bike! I don’t actually have one of these, but it looks fun as hell… http://surlybikes.com/bikes/pugsley

I go to the gym, which can be expensive, especially if you don’t go because you have to pay regardless, but I find it much easier to go to the gym in the crappy winter than during the summer when it’s nicer out (in theory at least). I listen to podcasts while on the bike or stair master, if it’s a good one an hour will go by and I don’t even notice, works for me at least.

I snowboard, shovel, visit wallnuts. Looking to get some snow shoes for next winter for those nice days where the snow conditions aren’t any good for snowboarding.

Note to all the Gordon Gekkos out there, who use the word, “they,” in connection with disabled people. Since most of us are disabled at some times, and all of us have that potential, “we” might be a better word.

Wear lots of layers and always have a scarf on… that keeps out the draft for me. (Wow, I’m old.) Also, drink ginger tea.

Personally, I bike. The roads are darn near perfect right now. A bit icy in places, and some days it’s a bit too much. Still, a low-grade mountain bike like I ride does the trick.

The great thing about biking places is that you get AT LEAST that much exercise per day – just by going to the places that you need to go anyway.

I swung down to Ordinary Spokes to get my brakes tightened and I picked up a new chain from them, too (only $4!).

Otherwise – I’ve been pretty slovenly this winter.

    i start more bands!
between moving gear, practicing and playing shows, it is my winter solution to diminished activity both physically and mentally!

Make up your own at home tourism tours:
Morning hike through Bannerman Park admiring the local St John’s bird population, and entering the where are the pathways under the snow, in your mind contest. Where you win of course a warm and comforting cup of fancy coffee at newest coffee shop on the block Post. Then a windy path towards Signal Hill and back tracking along Water Street and then down to Harbour Drive, admiring the narrows, the ships, the harbour while visiting some cultural spots of note; St Michael’s Printshop, Eastern Edge Gallery, The Leyton Gallery etc… A quick bit of window shopping and a hike west to Victoria Park to witness skills and dangerous jumps of young snowboarders and toboganners. While returning to your fancy delux home hotel in the wonderful Georgestown neighborhood, a quick hike over the mountain in front of the Rooms, imagining you are reaching the summit of the highest mountain top, you will finish your exciting and energetic day realxing sated in front of your townie log fireplace.

    - Take a walk in the wind without hunching over. If you Face the wind and you will feel less cold. Besides, it’s lovely and salty and stingy and wintery.
Have you ever noticed how creepy it is when you go somewhere where there is NO wind at all. It feels like something bad is going to happen. The air also feels stale and used up.

Nova Yoga (plus their Peace Flow is just a nice way to relax and stretch it all out!).
However, most of my exercise is dancing around to records in my warm house (cons- skipping records, pros- it’s free!).

I like to sit in a corner and violently sob beacause of my seasonal affective disorder. It’s inexpensive, but, it sure gets the ol’ heart going.

I also like diving into snowbanks to avoid cars.
