Here’s a handy clip ‘n save guide to some small bus companies and all their destinations. Unless otherwise noted, most companies can only accomodate a bicycle if you give them advance notice or if there is enough room in the vehicle on that day. Call ahead to discuss it with them.

Conception Bay East Taxi (709-685-3121)and Cove Taxi (709-682-2386) will take you the Bell Island Ferry in Portugal Cove. Both will pick you up at your doorstep and both cost about 8$ for the trip. Phone ahead to arrange a pick-up time. Unfortunately, neither can accommodate a bicycle.

Molloy’s Taxi (709-722-4249) will take you all the way down to Trepassy, via Bay Bulls and Ferryland, for just 23$. They’ve got weekday departures at 4pm and Saturday departures at 2pm.

Fleetline Bus (709-722-2608) will take you out to Holyrood for ten bucks or all the way to Carbonear for eighteen. Ten bucks to Holyrood, though… I can’t even take a taxi to the mall for less than ten bucks. Departures Monday through Thursday and Saturday at 12:30pm and 5:00 pm. Friday departures at 12:30pm and 6:00pm.

Newhook’s Taxi (709-227-5597) goes out to Argentia for just 30$. Daily departures at 2:00pm and 5:00pm, with an extra trip Saturdays at noon.

Marsh’s Taxi (709-747-2225) and Shirran’s Taxi (1-877-468-7741) will both take you out to Bonavista for forty bucks a trip and both have daily trips leaving St. John’s at 1:00pm. Bonavista Transport will take you up to Lumsden for just 48$ and they leave Mondays and Wednesdays at 2:30pm and on Fridays at 4:00pm. A few days notice will get your bicycle on, too.

If you’re looking to get to St. Pierre et Miquelon, Foote’s Taxi (1-800-866-1181) will take you to Fortune for 45$ to catch the ferry. They leave daily at 3:00pm.

Slaney’s Bus (1-888-873-2555), Cheeseman’s Bus (709-753-7022) and Spencer Lee’s Taxi (1-888-891-1020) will take you all the way to Point May, through Lord’s Cove, for fifty bucks. Slaney’s leaves daily at 2:30pm, Cheeseman’s leaves daily at 8:00am and 3:00pm, and Spencer Lee’s leaves daily at 2:00pm.

DRL Coachlines follow the TCH from St. John’s to Port-aux-Basques and back again. Check out their schedules and prices at www.drlgroup.com. If you’re lucky, they may even play that kooky video which features a couple lip-synching to various trad tunes.

If you’re already on the other side of the island and wanting to get into Gros Morne, Martin’s Bus (709-453-2207) and Pittman’s Bus Service (709-458-2084) can pick you up in Deer Lake or Corner Brook and haul you out to Rocky Harbour for just eighteen bucks. You have to call both in advance for scheduling.

Norpen (709-866-2281) will also take you up the Northern Peninsula to Englee. Their fares and departure times vary according to demand and season, so you’re best to call ahead.

The Fleetline bus is calling it quits. CBC Radio’s Morning Show recently interviewed driver Frank Sparkes about his decision:

Pittman’s Bus Service is now Viking, and has a new number: (709) 458 – 8186. They go from Corner Brook to Deer Lake to Norris Point.

I was wondering how to get to St. Pierre without taking my car, this is the most useful information I’ve found in 2 hours of surfing, thanks for this!!
