The food here was great and surprisingly cheap! For around 10 dollars each a friend and I split sushi, dumplings, buns and had a noodle bowl and a drink each. The lemonade was amazing, the owners are super sweet and the service was really quick. I’m dying to go back and try more things on the menu!
Is there parking there/closeby?
right across the street next to the old glass place
Light but high quality food that’s fun to eat. Very inexpensive. It’s not fine dining, but it’s a very friendly, casual atmosphere. All vegetarian. Some vegan. High quality tea. All around excellent.
A welcome, unique addition to St. John’s.
The food is lean and tasty, the atmosphere’s friendly, and the price is more than affordable. My husband and I have been here twice already!
Menu highlights include:
-Steamed dumplings stuffed with wild mushrooms,
-Carrot maki served with pickled cabbage,
-Bao-dze (a steamed Chinese stuffed bun),
-a hot and a cold noodle dish,
-all sorts of teas and specialty beverages.
Each item is about 2 or 3 bucks (!!!) and arrives tapas style as it becomes ready, perfect for sharing. It’s not a super-sized, fatty indulgence, it’s in the range of how I normally aim to eat.
The family that runs it is friendly and relaxed. Think they’ll do well here in St. John’s. Certainly hope they succeed!
Very cute spot. Great eats for cheap! I really like their rice noodle dish.
Oh, and their serving dishes are beautiful and authentic. Eat in, take out. Good times.
Does anybody know their hours of operation?
Great eats that are very reasonably priced, very tasty tea, relaxed and friendly environment, quick service.. Overall a very good first experience, and we will certainly be going back again soon! For two of us to each have tea, plus sharing about 5-6 different dishes (which made for a comfortably filling dinner for 2), the bill came to under $25.00. YUM!
We just missed them last night. If memory serves, they open around 11 everyday and are open until 6:30 most days except Wednesday at 6:00 and 8:00 on Saturday. I can’t remember if they are open on Sundays, you take your chances with that one.
The best cheap eats in St. John’s! A great place to go with a bunch of friends and order dish after dish and spend less than $15. I would still love it just as much if they doubled their prices.
I had the steamed buns, the fried dumplings, the spring rolls and the olong tea. All excellent.
I only wish their was a way to remove the tea leaves from the tea pot once they were done steeping. Maybe I just need to drink the delicious tea faster!
I will definetly return, again and again!
ask for more water
Great food! Great Prices! Swift and friendly service: my only complaint is that they only give you a small amount of soy sauce to dip your sushi in, and there is none provided on the table.
Maybe that more of a personal preference thing; I want to reiterate that it’s a good spot to have a bite!
lovely little spot for a delicious cheap meal, all vegan (except for the milk-based drinks).
4 dishes (noodles, steamed buns, sushi, sticky rice) plus drinks (iced green tea and coconut milk) came to $18, and was enough food for two people to share and be satisfied.
they don’t seem to be open on sundays.
On Saturdays they are open from 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. despite what the sign says on their front door. This is a small restaurant that serves tea and sells tea as well. I got 100 grams of Jasmine/Green Tea for just $5.00 — now that’s a bargain!
We got a few “snacks” which were very small so this isn’t the place you want to go to for lunch if you’re hungry unless you order four snacks as the sizes are small. Everything is vegan on the menu and it’s a limited menu. I had the veggie maki which was really good and the cold noodles. The noodles were kind of bland and didn’t have much in them in the way of vegetables so that was kind of disappointing as it was mostly cut up cold vermicelli noodles.
My spouse had the spring rolls which he enjoyed as well as the bamboo rice which is rice with a variety of beans steamed in bamboo. This was probably more filling than the cold noodles as my spouse wasn’t as hungry afterwards as I was.
We both enjoyed our tea. I had Jasmine and he had oolong.
Great place for buying tea and a light vegetarian snack.
Finally tried this place, and it exceeded my expectations! Between 2 of us, we had sticky rice, bamboo rice, dumplings, and each had an order of springrolls and a drink. Including a $5.00 tip, the meal came to $26.00, and I was stuffed when I left.
Staff was very friendly, and service was quick. The food was the most delicious I’ve had in quite some time. Will definitely be a repeat customer, and have already raved about it to anyone who will listen!
This tea house used to be in Charlottetown, where I grew up. It was there for ten years and was doing well. When I heard they were moving to St. John’s I was really happen…but when I heard the location I was a little concerned for them, wasn’t sure if they would do well there. SO GLAD they are. I love this little spot. The people who own the place are beyond lovely, the tea is amazing and like everyone above says the food is simple, good and inexpensive. The sticky rice is my favorite!

Everything above is true! Finally tried this place last week and thoroughly enjoyed our visit.
We ordered almost everything on the menu and total bill for two of us was only $30. We enjoyed every bit and had full bellies to boot. The cold noodle salad, sticky rice, stuffed buns and coconut milk tea were especially yummy. And the service was really lovely.
What a great spot to go and spend a couple hours in the afternoon. We went around 1:30pm and just didn’t want to leave the warm, cozy atmosphere. I hope this place stays open, in spite of the location.
My husband and I went today for our first time. LOVED it! Really good food, wonderful, friendly service, (the owners are delightful). We ordered 2 teas and 4 dishes between the 2 of us which came to $17.
This restaurant exceeded our expectations. I highly recommend it.
Seriously, some of the BEST service I’ve received in St. John’s. Seriously caring and attentive servers, really relaxed and pleasant atmosphere, very respectful servers and really great food. Friendly, and something new for this city. Great place for a unique lunch!
PLUS I believe everything is vegetarian, many things are vegan!
Awesome food, wonderful tea, attentive, friendly service. I have nothing bad to say about it! There’s even on street parking nearby!
I would reccomond this place to anyone! Such good food, nice people and the fastest service with high quailty food. The resturant is beautiful and it’s perfect for sharing! Their tea’s are excellent and overall I was very much impressed with everything. I will 100% be returning.
I love this place. Everything on the menu is delicious, healthy (for the most part) filling, cheap, vegetarian, and comes to the table in no time. The filled bun is my favorite thing in the world lately. I give this place a spinal tap rating of 6 stars.
Its become my favourite restaurant in the city. The owners are super nice, service is amazing, and so is the food. At the price I can afford to eat here fairly often, and am obliged to bring in take out for coworkers. Usually it comes out to 10 dollars a person for a filling amount of food. A person favourite is the bbq bun, today a coworker ordered 4 for her lunch and nothing else.
Should totally be a contender in the Scope’s best restaurants issue!
