After passing this restaurant many times we finally decided to give it a try – and were thoroughly delighted! The food was great as well as the service. They have an extensive menu, which is all posted online. It’s the only place where you can have Mexican, Thai, Indian, French, Canadian and more all at the same time! There is definitely something everyone will love. I’m looking forward to going back for one of their many 2 for 1 specials, as well as something off their incredible dessert menu!
We had the Signature Spanish Burrito with super yummy fries and their Canadian take on Pad Thai. With tax and tip the total was $35. They only get 4 stars because for being a mid-range family restaurant their interior looks more like a (clean) greasy spoon.
If I could rate this place -1, I would. I can honestly say that this was my worst dining experience ever. I am not one to complain about dining out, but this has to be said. Myself and my wife dined here on a Wednesday night (about 3 weeks ago in early Nov.), and both of our meals were so terrible that we just pushed them aside (in hopes that someone would notice). My wife ordered a spaghetti dinner, and was served fettuchini noodles with sauce from a can (tasted like cheap heinz sauce)— if you do not have spaghetti noodles, just say so and we will order somthing else!! to top it off her meal was so cold that the sauce and noodles was one big lump, needless to say she wasn’t impressed. I ordered a “beef dipp sandwich”, and was served big chunks of meat smothered in bbq sauce (so much sauce that the bread was dripping wet! gross). It was such a disgusting combination, I felt like urging. So we pushed our meals aside, and when the waitress came down, she was so oblivious to the situation she never even noticed (or cared )that we never ate anything!!! She just took our plates away and asked could she get us anyhting else this evening? Yeah you can pay for MCDonald’s for me, because that is where we headed after this terrible meal. To add insult to injury, they had this man going from table to table bothering everyone while they were dining (he was the “entertainment” for the evening). To sum it up — ditch the annoying entertainer, hire some real cooks, and tell your wait staff to be a little more attentive. A TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE.
Have to say that my sister and I are regular customers to around the world and after reading that other review we decided to check out the spaghetti with the fettuccini noodles…and we did and it was amazing! It actually does describe it on the menu and informed us that we would be getting fettuccini noodles…we go every week for wing night on monday and also for breakfast every saturday morning together. We find it hard to decide between the canadian omelette or the french toast hug. Great coffee, great food, and the staff are always pleasant.
I don’t want to be too hard on this place, because the servers are actually good and I’ve only ever eaten from the 15-minutes-or-it’s-free express lunch menu. That said, I wont be going back there if I can help it; each time I’ve eaten there I was certain my food was microwaved (like I said, I was ordering from the 15-minute-lunch menu, I’m guessing they spend the morning cooking those meals and then just stick them in the microwave when you order). And calling this place “international” seems very generous, this is basically a greasy spoon that sticks international-sounding words on their menu so they can charge more for their mediocre food, most of their “international” meals seem to be nothing more than fast-food-quality meat and veggies smothered in hot sauce. It’s not too expensive, but still overpriced considering the quality. Basically, it’s an ok place if you want a very quick and convenient lunch but are desperate to avoid the fast-food joints on Commonwealth Avenue. Dont expect to be blown away by the food though.
My wife and I went her at 7:30 on a Saturday night. The service was fast. We thoroughly enjoyed the food and the service was amazing. The girls were very pleasant and friendly. I have never experienced better service EVER.
Food was bland.
Food has always tasted great….but service has always been super slow! I have been there several times and have been left waiting for extended periods for various meals when the items are order have never been that complicated (breakfast food for example). These have also been times when the restaurant wasn’t overly busy… PIck up the pace a bit and things should improve
Food’s good but it sucks when there’s only one girl working and the place is blocked.
Good, but needs more veggie options. The samosas are good, though nowhere close to International Flavors.
Around the World restaurant has been a favorite dining spot for my husband and I for a long time. The fish choices are amazing most times.
Last night was so disappointing, we waited over a hour for our food but decided to leave when we couldn’t get a satisfactory idea when our order would be ready. We were ignored by our waiter, the staff or lack of staff were too busy to care. There seems to be a whole new staff, none of the reguar staff which were excellent were not there. One lady in particular hasn’t been there the last few times we were there, she seemed to keep everything in order.
Myself and my partner have been wanting to try out this spot for awhile now, and finally decided to last night! (I have been once before, many many years ago)
The appearance of the place wasn’t the nicest, so we didn’t expect much of the food, but boy, was that not the case! I was so impressed with the food. I had the Chicken club wrap and my partner had the Ultimate Taquitos . The gravy was really good (and we’re picky when it comes to out gravy!), everything was cooked to perfection.
My only complaint was with the Spinach herb Dip- They gave us LOTS of pita/nacho chips with it, but not much of the actual dip. Such a shame, because the dip is really really good.
The service was awesome, I gotta say. They checked on us an adequate amount/were right on the refills as soon as we needed them.
Overall, i’d give a 5, based on my experience. I think this might become a place we visit more often!
But this is to be expected of a resto that is situated in a bedroom city and tries to serve meals of many cultural/national origins. It is best if a resto goes with one idea and does it well. You cannot do fish and chips, mexican, thai, indian, italian, etc. and do it all WELL in one resto. Impossible. Their pad thai is sloppy (too much sauce) and the sauce basically appears to be composed of ketchup, peanut butter, and chili for heat. My mother ordered it “hot”, which was a good decision because the heat masked the other amateurish flavors. If you go to this resto, your best bet is probably to get the kind of stuff that is difficult to get wrong. Eg. blackened salmon is decent almost anywhere, and it’s hard to screw up home fries. Also, anything with goat cheese is edible. I’d eat goat cheese off my foot. I have had their panino that has goat cheese, with some home fries, and it was quite good.
If you go to International Flavors, go simple rather than international and you’ll most likely be get a decent meal.
When a friend and I visited the restaurant on Sunday, we sat down and had to wait at least 5 minutes to be offered something to drink. There was only 1 waitress on shift and there were a few customers, however as someone who had worked downtown, neglecting your customers is a definite no no! I hate to say this but the coffee was extremely bland, and not worth the wait.
I warn anyone reading this, not to get the butter cream chicken because mine was very mild and cold. The atmosphere was nice, too bad the food didn’t match the place. Knowing I wouldn’t be coming back, I left the waitress a nice tip and was pleasant out of pity.
Tight on Time
I have been to Around the World a few times now. I have sampled their all-day breakfast, pasta dishes and pub grub. Two of the four times I went I had a timeframe (work break) to dine within, and both times I got my food with just 10 minutes to spare. While this is largely my own fault, I was assured that I’d have plenty of time to eat there when I asked upon arrival.
With all that being said, the food is generally pretty good. I feel that if they narrowed down the eclectic menu it could be even more delicious, but then again, maybe that’s part of Around the World’s charm! :)
Ate here on Monday. The food was good, the server was fantastic. The price, however, was nuts! We had one appetizer (soup) and two entrees with pop for the drinks. The meal cost $60! Not the type of place that can get away with these prices. I think that they must have raised the prices because I don’t remember ever feeling gouged before.
It’s my only complaint – we usually enjoy our meals and the service is always great.
Myself and my wife ate there last friday night. To sum it up, the experience was horrible… we were ignored for approx 15 mins before being shuffled to our table and then we didnt see a waitress for about another 10 mins. it comes down go this. 15 mins to be seated, another 25 to get our drinks and to place our order. we had been there an hour before we received our appetizers. 40 mins later our food showed up and it was disgusting… this place lacks service and any type of good dining experience. i would not recommend this restaurant to anyone unless you have 4 hours and a wallet full of cash to throw away. on a scale of 5 stars it wouldn’t even make it on the scale…
Probably the worst service I have ever had across the
world. No pun intended.
Wow! This place is amazing. As with everywhere these days, sometimes staff is better than at other times, but I’ve experienced that everywhere occasionally these days with the shortage of good workers, so overall its great. If a dish is not to your liking they are more than happy to fix any problem. There is great food and nice atmosphere – two seating area! There is also provision to register compliments or complaints which is appreciated.
Went, stood in the line to be seated for 10 minutes, no server in sight, obviously empty tables right in front of me. A disappointment for sure. Left and went to Dougie’s next door. Had fun making fun of the incorrectly scaled map on the wall tho.
The toilet paper sucks needs new toilet paper for sure!!!!
The Scope is no more! Thanks for seven amazing years.
