Various – Rock and Roll Comes to Newfoundland: An Archive (2007)

The first dozen tracks on this disc are a sock hop waiting to happen. Fans of 50s and 60s-style rock and roll, of country-tinged weepies, or of garage music should appreciate this archive of local music history. A compilation of several bands, the music does vary in genre and therefore everyone may discover a few different favourite tracks, but as a collection of under-appreciated bands from the province, it’s pretty fascinating. Though the CD features only a handful of artists, the DVD profiles dozens more, along with interviews and some live performances. Worth saving up your Canadian Tire money for. – Erin McKee
