10 questions for Janet Kelly, owner and founder of Auntie Crae’s specialty food store.
What are your current obsessions?
Learning how to make a really good French bread at home. Staying alive, staying fit, and squeezing in time to do more reading. At the moment I’m reading a who-done-it by Ian Rankin.
What turns you on creatively, spiritually, or emotionally?
Learning something new, something that’s challenging and very often once I’ve learned how to do it I don’t do it anymore. It’s the challenge of learning. Right now I’m trying to get good Soduko. I’m not very good at it yet. So far I’ve done over forty of them and I’ve cheated on about 30 of them. But I’m learning.
What turns you off?
Arrogance and bad manners, and I’m guilty of both sometimes, but it’s a turn off.
What is your favorite curse word?
Probably “Jesus Christ!”
What sound or noise do you love?
Happy children. The sounds of nature: birds, animals, trees rustling.
What sound or noise do you hate?
Vaccuum cleaners, with a passion. I refuse to use one. That has got to be the worst. It’s very invasive of my personal space.
What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
I think I’d like the profession of retirement. I have so many things I want to do, that may be a good profession for me. But it probably won’t happen.
What profession would you not like to do?
Working in a factory where you had to do the same thing over and over and over and there was no room for learning.
If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?
“Come join the party. It’s got to be fun or it doesn’t exist here.”
How often do you floss?
Once a day, in the morning. …I’m surprised you didn’t ask me about my underwear!
