Tonight (Aug 3rd) at Bannerman Park, one of my favorite singer-songwriters and good friend Sherman Downey will be closing out the opening festivities of the Newfoundland & Labrador Folk Festival. Since the release of his debut album Honey for Bees (2010), Sherman has been busy touring and garnering much attention from fans and critics all over the country. Today’s track “Windowsill” is a live, solo performance captured by HeavyWeather at last year’s 24 Hour Art Marathon.
Sherman and his band The Silver Lining are but one of the incredible acts you can catch at the Folk Festival this year. Tonight Sherman will be sharing the stage with such phenomenal talent as The Dardanelles, The Punters, Jim Payne, Amelia Curran and Pamela Morgan just to name a few. Saturday and Sunday’s line-ups will also include All The Wiles, Crooked Stovepipe, Andrew James O’Brien, The Forgotten Bouzouki and The Masterless Men. There will also be tents showcasing dance, traditions and story-telling. For a full schedule of Folk Festival events and times check the link below.
