“Under The Knife” by Mopey Mumble Mouse

After a long hiatus, one of St. John’s most exciting, energetic live bands, Mopey Mumble Mouse, are back on the local circuit for some shows. The lads will be playing this Thursday (July 12th) at The Ship as part of Sound Symposium XVI. The show will wrap up with a noise jam, open to audience participation, so bring your own instrument or noise making device.

Mopey are currently putting the finishing touches on their new album I Look In Your Eyes But There’s Snow On Every Channel which is slated for release this coming fall. For those loyal fans chomping at the bit for new music, the band has posted some rough mixes from the new record to tide us over. Today’s track, “Under The Knife” is a little sampling of what’s in store, with its psychedelic, wah-drenched intro/chorus giving way to full speed ahead punk verses. Other new songs like “Grinning Skull” find the group exploring some new territory with its thudding toms, creeping bass line and atmospheric guitar and vocals. “Youngblood’s” finds Mopey delving into some straight up metal riffage and giving that the Mumble Mouse treatment while “If You Stopped Believing In Me I Would Die” harkens back to the days of 80′s synth-rock.

Check out Mopey Mumble Mouse this Thursday (July 12th) at The Ship. You can also catch them playing Janestock this Saturday (July 14th) at Northern Bay Sands and playing the Firm All-Stars show at Distortion next Friday (July 20th).
