“The Summit” by Elk & The Elderly

Jul 26, 2012

Tonight (July 26th) at Distortion, Firm Thursday will feature another killer line up including Be Alright, The Lurks, Call Off Your Masters and Elk & The Elderly — the latter of which released their debut album just last year.

Elk & The Elderly consists of Doug Laing (guitar/keys/guitar), Geoff Sampson (guitar/keys), Ryan Collins (drums), Colin Grenning (Guitar) and Nick Ryan (bass). They really are masters of their craft, specializing in a blend of alt-rock and ambient prog that recalls a mix of Incubus, Said The Whale and Sketches For My Sweetheart The Drunk-era Jeff Buckley. Today’s track “The Summit” is a nice representative of the group’s sound featuring Doug Laing’s rich, full vocals powering through layers of reverb soaked guitars and drum scuttle. Other standout tracks from the groups debut include the atmospheric shuffle of “Our Grandfathers Were There” and the full-on rock of “Houston We’re Alright”.

Check out Elk & The Elderly tonight at Distortion with Be Alright, The Lurks and Call Off Your Masters. The lads have the opening slot at 11:00 PM so make sure you’re there early to catch this great new local act.
