“Put Me On A Ship” by The Domestics

This Saturday (July 14th), The Rocket Room will host a women’s songwriters circle, featuring Katie Baggs, Sherry Ryan, Ilia Nicoll and Sandy May. Both Baggs and Ryan have recently released incredible new albums (Home Again, Home Again and Sister of Mine respectively) and just last year Sandy May’s band The Domestics released its country-folk gem State & Arrow.

A native of Halifax, May formed The Domestics with husband Ian Cornelissen in 2008, recording their debut Welcome to the Good Life on their laptop as part of the first local RPM Challenge. It was that album that made me fall in love with the Domestics music and Sandy’s lilting vocals. Songs like “House On Top of a Hill” and “Put Me On A Ship” became instant favorites of mine, and still are to this day. Today’s track is the original RPM/laptop version of “Put Me On A Ship”. Both Ian and Sandy have said that they would like to re-record the song in the future, perhaps it will show up on their next album.

To hear more from Sandy May along with Katie Baggs, Sherry Ryan and Ilia Nicoll, drop by the Rocket Room at 8:30 on Saturday night. Tickets are available in advance at O’Briens Music, Fred;s Records and Model Citizens. You can also catch The Domestics at The Levee on Thursday (July 12th) with The Somethin’ Family.
