Sackville, NB garage-punk freak-out band Astral Gunk will be in St. John’s from August 23rd to August 25th, and they may just blow your mind. The band formed in 2011 and consists of Joel Young, Joe Chamandy, Zach Carriere and Keith McFadden, all established musicians on the Sackville scene. Astral Gunk have just wrapped up a marathon East Coast tour in June and recently rocked the stage at Sappy Fest in New Brunswick. They’re back on tour for the remainder of August which brings them to St. John’s for three days next week.
Astral Gunk’s music draws inspiration from 70s garage bands like The Sonics and Television, and blend that raw, unpolished sound with the live energy and intensity of groups like The Make-Up, Minutemen and Dead Kennedys.
Today’s track “Modern Life” is a nice introduction to the weird and wonderful world of Astral Gunk and just a taste of what you can expect from the bands live shows (Aug 23-25). You can catch Astral Gunk at the following dates and venues while they are in town.
