No Cons by Rayfield
The first time I heard today’s track I thought it was an unreleased song by The Cure. And I’m a big fan of The Cure. When I found out the song was by a local group by the name of Rayfield, I checked out their MySpace and discovered a host of other incredible songs that, while still retaining some hints of The Cure, exhibit plenty of other diverse influences. The thing that struck me about the band is that their music rocked without being heavy and distorted. Rayfield was formed in 2005 by Jordan Taylor (vocals/guitar) and Daniel Rayfield Gilbert. Filling out the group are Ryan Taylor (drums), Matt Cross (bass) and Dion Hynes (accordion/guitars). In 2006 the group won the first leg of Alliant’s Battle of the Bands and got to open for Bedouin Soundclash at Club One. From there they went on to compete against three other bands from Atlantic Canada and won a slot on the Vans Warped Tour in Vancouver. And for the next three years Rayfield were staples of the downtown live music.
In 2009 they decided to take a little hiatus, but 2011 finds the band back in action with plans of recording a full length album. In the meantime you can check out this amazing local band at the Fat Cat on April 8th for the first of hopefully many more shows to come.
