A while back we featured a song called “Soil, Salt and Sea” by local band Cold River Choir. The group recorded this song and a few others with Don Ellis last winter in hopes of releasing an EP. Unfortunately the plan fell through and the EP never saw the light of day aside from the handful of songs posted on the band’s website. “The band has taken an indefinite break since September,” said CRC frontman Gavin Simms. I personally was disappointed to hear this news, as I thoroughly enjoyed Cold River Choir’s brand of folky, roots rock and had been eagerly anticipating the release of their debut EP. For those of you who feel the same, I give you today’s track “Love or Lies,” another from the Don Ellis sessions.

Although CRC are currently splits-ville, you can still look forward to hearing more from singer-songwriter Gavin Simms.
“I’m concentrating on other projects,” says Simms. “But I’ve got a 10pm show coming up at the Rose this Friday which will feature a member or two of Cold River Choir.”.

You can catch Gavin Simms this Friday (Dec 9th) at The Rose & Thistle with the fabulous Joanna Barker, and 2011 Atlantis Prize short-list nominee John Cossar.
