“Keep Your Head Up” by Sherman Downey and the Ambiguous Case

Another local group that received some nominations for this weekend’s East Coast Music Awards in PEI is Sherman Downey and The Ambiguous Case. Their 2009 album Honey for Bees has been nominated for Group Recording of the Year and Rising Star Recording of the Year. Sherman has been part of the Newfoundland music scene for quite some time now and in various forms. He fronted local punk outfit Hung Up in the late 90’s/early 00’s, he was one half of the acoustic duo known as Pattyfingers with counterpart Matt Wells (Bucket Truck) and was even in a cover band (Rogue Elephant) with myself and some friends from the Education faculty back when we were university. Sherman has long been a gifted songwriter and a riveting performer, but his more recent excursions into folk-rock really seem to have caught the collective ear of the public. Today’s track “Keep Your Head Up” is a video that Sherman and the boys just recently made with director Paul Buckle. It was filmed on the west coast with a cast made up primarily of volunteers from Corner Brook and surrounding areas. This is but a small indication of the dedicated following that Sherman and boys have built up lately. All the best at the ECMA’s lads.
