Just like in Grease, the end of summer marks the conclusion of many a romance — and so St. John’s brief but gushy love affair with Thee Internet draws to a close.
It was only about a year ago that I first featured St. John’s band Thee Internet as Track of the Day. At that time front-man Tyler Lovell was just preparing to re-record some of the demos he had done in his basement to make a full fledged album. Since then Thee Internet have released their debut LP Identity Crisis and have gone on to become one of the most interesting, vital bands on the recent St. John’s scene.
Well as the old adage goes, “all good things must come to an end,” or at least go on a hiatus of undetermined length. That will be the case with Thee Internet, as Tyler prepares to pack up and move to London, Ontario.
But does that mark the end of Thee Internet?
“We’re not breaking up, just slowing down,” says Lovell. “A whooooole lot.”
Tyler and the gang are letting us down easy and taking us out for one last dance this Friday (August 17th) at The Rock House. They’re also bringing along some of their friends — Hear/Say and Pathological Lovers — to remind us of the vibrant and dynamic music scene we have in St. John’s, and that they will hopefully return to someday.
