January may be one of the darkest, coldest months of the year, but for one day it burns warm and bright thanks to SPARKS Literary Festival. Entering its third year of existence, SPARKS is a one-day celebration of the spoken and written word in Newfoundland and Labrador. Presenters this year include Russell Wangersky, Marjorie Doyle, Joel Thomas Hynes, Mark Callanan, Leslie Vryenhoek, and more. The festival also features a haiku competition for audience members. Catch SPARKS at Petro-Canada Hall from 10am to 6pm. A reception will follow so you can mingle with the local literati.
