Thankfully, we’re in Newfoundland and Hallowe’en isn’t the only time of year to get dressed up and get foolish. Definitely not the Mummers Festival folks. The focal event of the 2011 Mummers Festival is the Mummers Parade, a free-for-all romp through town, and ridiculous, anonymous, gender-bending disguise is the expected garb. Festival organizers say the Mummers Parade is an amazing and interactive collective outpouring of sound, music, and colour, but at the very least, it’s a ready-made opportunity to wear huge underwear outside your clothes. The Mummers Parade starts at Bishop Feild School at 46 Bond Street with a costume “rig-up” at 1pm. The parade departs at 2pm. More info at mummersfestival.ca.
