October is a damn fine month for outdoor activities on the Avalon. The nippers are all but absent, the humidity is back to bearable, and the fall foliage approaches its prismatic peak. The East Coast Trail Association is hosting a series of hikes of various sections of the vaunted 540-kilometre trail to capitalize on these clement atmospheric conditions. The hikes run throughout October and November, and range in difficulty from family-friendly strolls to arduous, day-long, off-trail fog slogs. The scheduled hikes are led by experienced hikers and take place each weekend. Check our Community Listings for the deetz on each. Or visit eastcoasttrail.ca for more info.
