One of Halifax’s most dedicated and talented rappers is also one of its most eccentric. Darren Pyper, also known as Ghettosocks, is easily recognizable with his oversized square-rimmed glasses and barely-hidden mischievous grin.
Pyper is a core member of the Halifax rap group Alpha Flight, who have been representing over there with a weekly hip-hop night and regular appearances on local campus-community radio shows.
(The name? He wears his socks until they have holes in them. Duh.)
Over the next few weeks, Ghettosocks will be touring across Atlantic Canada to promote the release of his band new solo album “Get Some Friends” and lucky for us he’s making a pitstop in St. John’s for a single show with another east coast rapper, Wordburglar – appearing for the first time in Newfoundland. He’s also packing a fresh new album with him, “Burglaritis”.
Wear some holes in your socks on Saturday, Nov 18 when Ghettosocks and Wordburglar perform at Junctions nightclub.
