Clicking around the Heritage Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador’s website, it occurs to me that I have no idea what the interiors of even half the sites opening their doors this year for Doors Open Days look like – let alone what goes on inside. I have to say I’m suddenly very curious.
September 9th and 10th many of St. John’s iconic buildings will be open to the public, and best of all it’s absolutely free. Does an aquarium view of a functioning river sound neat to you? Remember trains? Don’t remember trains? Haven’t gotten around to visiting The Rooms yet? Clear a day or even the weekend to take it all in.
Who knows? You might even learn something new about yourself – like I did when attending for the first time two years ago, discovering to my surprise that, given license to explore its nooks and crannies freely, it is possible to stay alert in church.
Doors Open Days in St. John’s takes place this Saturday and Sunday. Check here for a list of times and places.
