Imagine if Eyehategod had broken up because of speed instead of heroin, or if Phil Anselmo stopped fucking around with C-grade black metal when his plane to Norway got stuck in Sweden, then got locked in a dark room listening to the Hellacopters’ "Supershitty to the Max" on repeat for a week straight, ate Nick Royale’s heart, then got elephantitis of the balls and recorded another Down album – you’d get something like Toronto’s Cancer Bats.
The Bats have done their homework, refining their mix of distilled hardcore and groove-driven Sabbcore, and dolling it out in heaping portions on this year’s "Birthing the Giant" out on Distort Records.
…Even if you didn’t understand a word of what I just said, this will be a perfect opportunity to trot out your inner Neanderthal and feed it something loud, fast and angry.
