Is one Bob ever enough? And does our fair City of Legends ever reach full legend capacity? Nay, and nay again, you cry? Well, how about this: pillar of the Canadian folk-acoustic community Bob Snider and singer-songwriter-producer-filmmaker Bob Wiseman will be raising St. John’s town’s legend count (and its Bob count) with two intimate shows at the Ship on July 28th and 29th.
Halifax’s Daily News has called Bob Snider “the songwriters’ songwriter.” He has recorded five albums, has been the subject of a tribute record, and has been covered by Ashley MacIsaac and Penny Lang, among others.
Of Bob Wiseman, Vancouver’s Terminal City Magazine says quite succinctly, “it’s so rare for something to come along that is so fucking good.” He has been musically affiliated with the likes of Wilco, Ron Sexsmith, Sook-Yin Lee, Final Fantasy, and Blue Rodeo circa “Lost Together.” And he has eight albums of his own under his belt. A man after my own heart, there’s a rather coy “recipes” section on his website. I’m not sure that cookery will be part of the performance, but both shows promise to be amazing nonetheless.
Bob Snider and Bob Wiseman with special guest Liz Solo (resident legend, though not a Bob), at The Ship on Solomon’s Lane, Saturday July 28th and Sunday July 29th. Shows start 9 p.m. and cover is $10, $7 for students and artists. www.bobsnider.ca www.bobwiseman.ca
