There may not be powdered wigs, but there’s a salon on!
TEDxFortTownshend, an independently organized local offshoot of the global education titan, TED, will be holding salons at Rocket Bakery in the coming months, starting October 16.
“Salons are smaller, less formal affairs where we will continue to engage the broader community and share more TED talks and spread more ideas throughout the community,” says organizing committee member Greg Knott. “Communities grow, evolve and thrive with the influx and disbursement of new ideas. Our goal is to continue to grow our community by spreading new ideas. It’s a simple goal with a powerful outcome.”
The goal of the TEDxSalons (the ‘x’ is for ‘independently organized’) is to promote the main TEDxFortTownshend event which is going to be held in March 2013.
Those new to the world of salon-attendance can expect curated TED talk videos, viewings of talks from the group’s first event in March of this year, and performances from local artists. The first salon will feature singer-songwriter Danielle Bailey.
TEDxSalons will be held at Rocket Bakery in the Rocket Room from 7-9 pm. The first event will be Tuesday, October 16. Tickets will be $5 and include a 10 per cent discount on a meal on the night of the event. A limited number of tickets are available.
