24 hours of art

Local artist and commercial screenprinter Jennifer Barrett is certainly no stranger to The Scope’s pages, but this is the first time we’ve set her loose from the confines of the Bottom Line.

What better way to cast her bizarre illustrative magic than with a cover for the 24-Hour Art Marathon?

“It’s just a mishmash of famous art pieces that I thought would look kinda funny if they were actually running a marathon,” she says. “That’s why they’ve got numbers.

Her references are: Magritte’s Son of Man, a Mondrian rip-off for the background, an Egyptian-style wall painting, a sculpture of Atlas, Warhol’s Mao, a Lichtenstein Lady, Hirst’s The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living (the shark one), a Henry Moore sculpture, Munch’s Scream, and Barrett’s two comic “jerks.”

Barrett’s friend Scott Keating, a comics-creator and illustrator himself, coloured the cover.
