The spicy tuna roll is my personal favourite!

I have deviated and tried the sweet potato tempura, the california roll and the rice bowl. All of which were appetizing but I continue to return for the spicy tuna!

Service is not commendable. Welcoming atmosphere not people.

i have a friend who used to work at this restaurant and have heard too much about what was going on behind the scene

the nice julia that everyone know of takes every cent from the server.. her way of dividing tips (which is not supposed to be her duty, according to the law of Labour Standards the owner is not supposed to TOUCH the tips and they are to be done by the servers or to decide if they want to share their tips or just take whatever they made at the end of the day) is that every servers must give her ALL the tips and she will “do them up” and give them the next day. The friend of mine said was working all day at one particular day and at just one table she made $40 tips JUST THAT TABLE but the next day the princess julia gave her $20 tips from the whole day shift. The Labour Standards DID visit the restaurant after that but nothing much has changed. Oh, she did change one thing is that at the end of the day she gets one of the servers to divide the tips but to MAKE SURE THAT THE DIVISION OF THE TIPS INCLUDES HERSELF!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That was just ONE LITTLE case to give every one an idea that the tips that you are giving to your server, only a small percentage of it that the server will get.

Also if you what Miss Julia to treat you nicely and come out with all the complimentary tea or dessert please make sure that you dress nicely and look expensive because Julia does not care about people that dress casual to go in the restaurant.

For the record, if anyone think that I am out to lie or get at this restaurant I have no reason to lie or stop anyone from experiencing their food but to give everyone heads up for what is going on behind closed doors.

This restaurant was opened approximately no more than 3 months but at least 7 servers already quit after 7 or 8 weeks of the opening. Just to prove my point obviously i will never ever step my foot into that place and neither would anyone that know the people that worked there.

Maybe, but I’m guessing no. Feels like there isn’t a lot of time left for them. I saw ONE hanging off a tree–but it was half the length of my pinky, and very skinny.

Hey folks,

So everyone knows, this was an absolutely colossal meeting, as city council goes. The meeting itself was over three hours long,. At one point Shannie Duff said that it was going to be twice as long as any other meeting she had seen. I think this is probably an exaggeration, but that says something coming from someone who has been around council since 1977.

The meeting was luckily colossal on both content, as well as length. There were many great discussions on important issues, and more importantly than discussion, resolution to these issues.

The implementation of phase one and two of the Municipal Cycling plan were finally voted through, despite some opposition from those losing on-street parking (a privilege extended to some areas of the city which is often thought to be a right). There was one amendment to the vote, which was to give the residents of Old Topsail Rd until the end of August to try and find an alternative to losing their on-street parking.

We also saw the accepting of a bid on the tender for the operation of the recycling facility. This means that in October we should see city-wide curbside recycling. Finally.

The Cycling Network and Recycling are two issues which have plagued, and shamed St. John’s for some time now, and it is relieving to finally see them be addressed. They are also issues which city staff, council, and the public should be very proud of. They are issues which are important to us all as a city, and have been achieved through much hard work, collective will, and persistence on all sides.

Another big step taken at the meeting was to send the proposed changes to the Municipal Plan to the provincial department of Municipal Affairs, which is the next step in taking out the section of Water Street West holding the old Woolworths Building and the former Arcade site from certian heritage areas. Last night we also received a proposal for the Arcade site which would also take advantage of “bonus height” which would be available if the municipal plan changes go ahead. Before the changes to the municipal plan occur, there will be an opportunity for public input, so make sure to contact a member of council to let them know how you feel.

Anyways, more went on at the meeting last night then I could possibly tweet fast enough about, but I tried to hit the highlights as best as I could.

I wish more people would be willingly to share these “secrets” – the fact that people are complaining about sharing this information shows how unfriendly some can be. I have lived in St. John’s area for 9 years and only knew about 1 spot – recently learnt about 1 more. I have asked plenty of people I know and most could not help me as they didn’t grow up at a swimming hole like I did. I thank the scope for posting this map.

I went to J Korean expecting good food at a moderate price and (providing it’s not heat lamps and Hits FM blaring) not really caring about atmosphere.

The food was good, the servers were definitely new but were visibly trying to do well and didn’t seem put off that I went in late… But I have no idea what people here are talking about when they talk about how “lovely” Julia is. My experience in this restaurant went sour when I overheard Julia trying to usher the servers to sign out and leave. There were two servers, one at my table and another serving a small group, and we were both just about finished. What I gathered from the ensuing conversation was that the owner hadn’t been giving them their tips, and was trying to get them to leave before either of us had paid and left.

This sort of conduct is revolting. I don’t know what’s acceptable in Korea, but if your profit is coming straight from the till, you shouldn’t be trying to pocket the tips of your workers. There are Labour Standards in this province — I will NOT be going back, and I encourage others to do the same.

Don cherry’s is overpriced and I always leave feeling gipped and unsatisfied. Ex. Their nachos are $13 and all you get is a plate of dry nachos with a sprinkle of cheese and about 2 kinds of veggies if you’re lucky. The service is also horrible and the wait times are rediculous. It seems like the management just doesn’t care because they know they’ll still make money being one of the few sports bar & restaurant. I’d also note that the don cherry’s in clarenville is awful, probably the worst of them all. I’ve only eaten there a handful of times but each time I waited over 2 hours by the time it was all said and done.

Since the new management has taken over this place has gone downhill. No more free eggdrop soup, and the quality of food and service has gone downhill.
