Went down tonight to get a bite to eat. It sure tasted like chicken, so must be true what they say. The size was just right, although my wife prefers hers to be a bit larger. She did love them though, she managed to put the whole thing in her mouth. She didn’t even gag! When she got done, she had a bit of the white sauce drippin from the side of her mouth. All ended good, and we had a great night

They shouldn’t be able to screw over all the tenants whom, whether low or medium income, are renting because they cannot afford a house, and in many cases these people work from paycheck to paycheck and still save what little they can. I understand that money house owners/landlords get from a tenant is theirs to do as they please with, but making us pay their full mortgages and bills by making the rent super high just because we are now a “have” province and because the banks like to shake things up is atrocious and greedy. Many are living off the backs of low/medium income people…Just because I can’t afford right now, and I am RESPONSIBLE enough to know it, I can’t put a downpayment on a house, even if it is only 15k say, because I know I can’t afford the mortgage. The banks wanted it to play out like this so they can make lots more cash. There is a problem with our system which needs to be fixed. I am tired of arguing black and blue with people for them to realize things.

And then, the landlords have the nerve to not repair things that THEY ARE REQUIRED BY LAW to fix and they allow it to continue until someone gets hurt or almost killed like I was almost killed. I don’t feel safe anymore when I sleep at night for god sake. It didn’t need to come to that if only my landlord didn’t go on constant vacations and completely ignore repairs, even after he went to court with the city who were complaining about how badly it needed to all be fixed. And months after the city didn’t enforce, I almost die. In my previous apartment before that one, some people always fighting on the street drunk broke out my windows and it was never repaired. Scared the daylights out of me. The police came and I saw them laughing outside about it. WTF? And now, I am having lots of difficulty and I am restlessly trying to find a place to live in a place that has 1% vacancy rate. Very sad that nobody cares about people anymore, but instead, they only care about the money.

It looks to me like we are starting to turn into places like Fort Murray, which makes no sense considering we have much lower wages and less work. It is quite obviously from greed.

JT, why should my rent pay people’s entire mortgages and bills(water taxes, electric, etc) on a monthly basis? If these people with mortgages are so responsible, then they shouldn’t have bought their house in the first place if they couldn’t keep up with raising mortgage prices, just because the down payments were low and they wanted it. Nobody can see the future of course, but it wasn’t hard to see that it would cause this nonsense. They should have known the banks would raise the mortgage.

Besides, a tenant isn’t responsible for all of the owner/landlords bills but there are tons of people who are renting that end up having to do the repairs on their own just to make their apartment livable and are paying far too much. The landlords/owners had a choice, I don’t, because I seriously have looked and many of the places I went to are in bad repair, and I know they won’t be fixed before I move in due to many terrible experiences. And these are the only somewhat affordable places to live and are not even really affordable.

Tenants take money from their OWN POCKETS to fix something they don’t even own and often don’t get compensated and eventually evicted under the no reason clause, which landlords/owners use to their heart’s content without repercussions.

I love how people act like I am the “entitled” one, yet I have more responsibly by not buying what I can’t afford. I still need a place to live though, and it is becoming so costly to rent that it is almost just as well, even though I can’t afford it, to go out and get myself a house. I am leaving Newfoundland instead because I don’t want to be the landlord making people suffer because I can’t afford to repair or pay my mortgage/bills.

I heard that interview too. The man told about experiencing the loss of his 12 year old daughter to starvation. Can you imagine? He said bodies of children are piled up at train stations because that’s where people congregate in hopes of bits of grain falling off that they could eat. People die then where they have congregated, eventually starving to death. Even years after escaping, people live in abject fear for their families and for themselves. So much tragedy-all preventable.

p.s. there are currently NO limits on the amount a landlord can increase the rent in Newfoundland. I.e., JK, there is no “maximum % that the rent can increase when the lease is being renewed”; all they have to do is give 3 months’ notice.

Quebec, Ontario, BC, P.E.I, and Manitoba all have rent controls, eg. in Manitoba the increase was 1% for 2012:

Not sure if it is a great place to park a car, but the view from Nunnery Hill is one of the best in downtown St. John’s. Nunnery Hill runs from Gower Street to Holloway Street. It should be a protected view in the Municipal Plan, but it’s not.

Another great view is from the rooms – not from a car, but you can get coffee there and it’s indoors. Plus you don’t have to pay admission to the Rooms if you’re not going in the galleries, museums or archives.
