Pink. I think that’s the theme here.
Ledon has a really striking presence and the two-tone palette is broken ever so slightly with the colour on her fingernails. It’s a very put-together look.

My favourite pieces here contrast each other, almost as much as the colour palette. Ledon’s glasses suit the shape of her face really nicely too. There’s a soft, almost feline quality there that lends an even sharper edge to the spiked double necklace.

Natalie was just getting off work and the sun was still bouncing around the shallow canyons of downtown. What little breeze that was in the air was soft and warm…
That may read a little like a cheesy romance novel, but it seriously was that kind of evening out, and Natalie’s outfit complimented that atmosphere nicely.

Natalie’s dress is textured and flowy, but the crisp, cute, metallic belt buckle anchoring the waist adds some really great contrast. Easing into the warmer season with subtle colours is a great strategy. The muted pallet of the brown leather purse, boots and the dusty rose shade of the cardigan really help maintain the softness of the look.

The last time we met up with Jeremy was just over a year ago. Since then he’s has been living in TO, but I caught him again while he was in town on business.

I find this revisit so interesting because almost exactly one year later, Jeremy is wearing a very similar outfit, but he’s wearing it differently. It feels less formal, there’s more of a swagger in the way the pieces come across. His cherry Doc Martens are showing a bit more wear, but they suit the style quite well.

The addition of the large headphones and a ball cap really help with the casual nature of this look. It just goes to show that the overall feel of a look can be changed by adding a few pieces or the way you carry yourself.

I believe this is the very first StitchUp I’ve done in a grocery.
I was picking up a few things last week when I spotted Stephanie and couldn’t pass up the opportunity to ask her for her photo. The contrast of the slick outfit and the location was a compelling image.

Subtlety is working in Stephanie’s favour here. Her whole outfit has a classic feel, and the monochrome majority is broken up with a few pops of colour. My favourite parts of this ensemble are the clutch with the oversized zip pull and the poppy shoes.

I don’t know if it’s the influx of Lawnya Vawnya visitors or because the sun was out yesterday, but downtown there was some of the best people watching I’ve seen here in months.

On my evening stroll, I noticed Susan and her friend chatting and walking; the warm light bouncing around and her fantastic yellow coat fit the evening perfectly.

My favourite detail is the twill skirt, as well as the strappy flats on Susan’s feet.

I was sitting downtown looking out the window of enjoying my first coffee of the day when I saw this lovely girl make a full stop in her stride. She’d discovered Post Espresso and moseyed in to grab herself a coffee.
Before she took off I had to ask if I could take her photo for StitchUp. Her look has an air of exploration reminiscent of a female Indiana Jones-type character. After a quick chat, the look seemed even more fitting, she is a flight attendant and was only in town for a very short time.

I enjoy that her ensemble has a utilitarian look but also has some really great feature pieces, like the hat, scarf and glasses, which are all perfect for exploring a new city.
Unfortunately, bumbling as I am, I forgot to write her name down. It’s almost fitting though, maybe that adds to the mystery of the girl behind the glasses.
Update: Thanks to Rita for getting in touch with us to identify herself!

Another StitchUp revisit this week: Karen, whom I photographed back in November.
I bumped into her again a few weeks ago and loved her fantastic coat. Apparently both times I’ve stopped her she was dressed a little out of her norm. Karen says instead of the more basic jeans and boots she usually dons vintage fashions of from the 50s era. I think hints of those still shine through in the two outfits I’ve seen her in: the cuts of the jackets, the hat from the previous StitchUp, and even the fuzzy earmuffs from this StitchUp.

It just goes to show that even when we feel like we’re getting out of step with our norm we’re still expressing a part of ourselves with our style.

Samanda was out with a friend enjoying the beautiful weather we were having last week when I stopped her for this photo. It was one of the first spring-feeling days we’d had after a stretch of cold.
The colours and pattern in her outfit are just great. The balance of the solids in the tan leather and yellow tights does a delicate dance with the polkadots and plaid in other pieces.

Samanda’s outfit is a breath of warm air compared to the wintery brush with Sheila we’re experiencing today.

Chelsea has a really fresh maritime look, and one of my favourite pieces of hers is the hat. The red really sets off the organic hues of the rest of her outfit.
On a day where you could feel a hint of spring in the air, the pallete of her outfit is just the right fit to reference the coming season.

It’s time for another StitchUp revisit! Becki has been a subject of the StitchUp on a couple of occasions and Chris was featured way back in January of 2011.

It’s interesting what time can do to a person’s style. There’s a bit of a leap between the Chris of two years ago and the Chris of today. Chris’ style now is still casual, but more refined.

Becki has a knack for pairing things, and a close eye for detail. I love that her leggings have that “spot varnish” look and also that she’s carried that over to her nails.

Victoria was out running errands when I stopped her for these photos. My favourite detail here is the oddball hat that ties an otherwise subdued outfit together. The toque not only brings in the colours from the tartan scarf, but also earthy tones of the dress, which then work with the darker browns of the leggings and boots.

With the ridiculous weather we’ve been getting all month it’s been proving to be a pretty difficult month for the StitchUp, so it’s nice to come across someone who’s a bit bundled up but still having fun with her outfit!

Abel has a really down-to-earth, casual vibe happening. His colour pairing and accessories caught my eye this morning.

I like the crisp cuffed dark denim he’s sporting, and the fact that he’s having a bit of fun with his winter socks is a nice detail as well. One of my favourite colour combinations is brown and orange, so the orange beads on Abel’s wrist caught my eye.

Heather’s outfit has some really nice contrast happening. The black and white of the jacket and leggings really makes the tones in her hair pop, and it also provides a really sleek, no nonsense feel to the outfit.

Probably my favourite detail here is (of course) the hat, I love seeing people rock an interesting hat. To me it’s an addition that can either make or break the look of an ensemble. Taking a closer look, the earrings stand out as a nice piece too.

It’s been a cold week, so for the StitchUp, indoors has been better for all involved. Location location location.

Clare is looking stunning in this cozy outfit. The palette matches our current string of weather, dark and grey, and even the few colours used here are muted, so it meshes quite well.

Theres a fantastic subtlety in Clare’s outfit. The print on her dress toward the top has two inks which are carried through in the tights and again in the purse.

I enjoy it immensely when I come across people who’ve only just darted out for something — people who probably didn’t have time to sit and primp and carefully style their outfits — but somehow there’s still that sense of personal style that comes through. Take Allie for instance. She just got out of a night class at MUN and popped out to run a quick errand for her sister. She didn’t just get out of class, put on her track pants and UGG slipper boots and lumber out the door.

My favourite piece of Allie’s are those wonderful pants, since I’m a big fan of large patterns. Also, the fact that there’s little to no colour in this outfit but it still creates interest is great too.

Its a simple outfit that seems to pull from 80s punk and 90s grunge eras, but with a bit of added polish.
