“The City of St. John’s is seeking expressions of interest from musicians who would like to perform during the Music at Harbourside Lunchtime Concert Series this summer. Music at Harbourside is a series of outdoor lunchtime concerts that take place every Friday in July and August at Harbourside Park in downtown St. John’s. Concerts run from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m…

The Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council (NLAC) announced details on the 28th Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council Arts Awards at a press conference held today in the Cox & Palmer Second Space at the LSPU Hall today.

And the nominees are…

Arts in Education Award
Ed Kavanagh – musician / writer
Lynn Panting – dancer
Susan Quinn – musician

Arts Achievement Award
Scott Goudie – visual artist
Nigel Markham – filmmaker
Gerry Porter – visual artist

Emerging Artist Award
Michael Gough – visual artist
Andrew James O’Brien – musician
Wanda Nolan – filmmaker / writer

Artist of the Year Award
Duane Andrews – musician
Michael Pittman – visual artist
The Once – musicians

Inductees to the Arts Hall of Honour for this year are the Craft Council of Newfoundland and Labrador as well as visual arts curator and writer Patricia Grattan. This year’s Patron of the Arts award will go to John and Peggy Fisher.

The award ceremony will take place on Saturday, May 18 at the DF Cook Recital Hall, and will be hosted by Republic of Doyle’s Krystin Pellerin. CBC Searchlight winners Sherman Downey & the Ambiguous Case will be the musical hosts.

Justin Murphy, one of the key members of the group behind the Newfoundlander Vs. videos, has just announced the group is retiring the popular Newfoundlander Vs. series. (No, this is not an April Fools joke.) Hawco didn’t didn’t explain why they were retiring the series, but there is indication that the group will continue making videos at the YouTube jhawk23 account. They were winners of The Scope’s Best Local YouTube Video for two years running in our annual Best of St. John’s readers’ survey.
